Over a year ago, while in Rwanda for a Team Cymru Regional Internet Security Event (RISE), I witnessed firsthand the hunger for knowledge among young computer science students, especially women, who crowded around my colleague in admiration. That moment crystallized an idea: to expand RISE into a structured, tiered curriculum accessible both in-person and online.

Today, that vision has become reality with the establishment of the RISE Information Security Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering cybersecurity professionals in developing nations. By delivering expert-led, no-cost training in cybercrime investigation, threat intelligence, and incident response, we aim to equip frontline defenders and strengthen global digital resilience.
